Smaller Raises in 2010, but Fewer Freezes
Employers are juggling selective hiring and incentives with selective staff cuts as they position themselves for business improvement, according to a Mercer survey of 350 mid-size and large U.S. companies. Fewer are planning across-the-board salary freezes for 2010 (14% compared with 30% reporting freezes in 2009), but among employers expecting to increase base pay, the rise is forecast to be 2.7% on average, down from an actual 3.2% in 2009.
