2010 Book of Lists Party Information Musically murderous
From Kander & Ebb, the legendary songwriting team behind “Chicago” and “Cabaret,” comes “Curtains,” a Broadway hit in 2007 that earned David Hyde Pierce (star of television’s “Frasier”) a Tony award. After the no-talent leading lady of a Broadway-bound musical is murdered backstage at Boston’s Colonial Theatre, Detective Frank Cioffi is called in to solve the crime. A star-struck amateur actor himself, Cioffi goes on to solve the musical’s problems, too – but not before more murders, multiple backstage affairs and plenty of song-and-dance. The satire gets its first local production in this collaboration between Wheaton College and Attleboro’s Triboro Musical Theatre, starring a cast of young actors and dancers from Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

LOCATION: Weber Theatre at Wheaton College, 26 East Main St., Norton, Mass. Friday, Jan. 15, and Saturday, Jan. 16, 7 p.m. $15 adults; $8 students and seniors. Purchase tickets online at the Web site or at the performances.

The production is cosponsored by Butler Hospital and Gateway Healthcare Inc. The Rhode Island-based nonprofit mental health care organizations will be joining Gamm artists in a series of post-show panel discussions.

In the air and everywhere
“The Rescuer,” the first episode of a radio serial called “Destefano on the Air!” is being presented by Perishable Theatre resident artist Cyrus Leddy. The show takes the listener and theater attendee on an entertaining ride through the complexities of rehabilitation, psychology and tough love. Leddy has been creating radio-theater for Providence audiences since 2004. His newest story follows a radio personality named Mischel Barry, who conducts an interview with a respected child psychologist. Intending to focus on the doctor’s new book and distinguished career, the radio host instead misfires repeatedly and places himself at the center of interview. More is learned about the relationship between the radio host and the doctor than the work conducted with child patients, producing comic results.

LOCATION: Perishable Theatre, 95 Empire St., Providence. Friday, Jan. 15 and Saturday, Jan. 16, 7:30 p.m. $5 tickets; reservations accepted. For more information or to make reservations, call (401) 331-2695 or visit the Web site.

National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day
National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day will be celebrated by the New York Deli Patrol on Saturday, Jan. 16th. The Boston-based artisan deli meat company, which recently opened a new shop in Providence, will make a special appearance at Eastside Marketplace to offer up mouth-watering sandwiches packed to the gills with the best cuts of brisket. Dan Estridge, founder, curator and chief flavor officer of New York Deli Patrol, says he wants to bring the taste sensations that he remembers from his childhood in New York to New Englanders. “You know, there are a few first-time sensations in life for which there can be no adequate preparation,” he says. “It’s warm, steamy, sexy, juicy, salty, spicy, smoky, succulent and meltingly tender. … I’m getting weak thinking about it again.”

LOCATION: Eastside Marketplace. 165 Pitman St., Providence. Saturday, Jan. 16, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Free to attend; sandwich costs vary according to size.
