* Development of inland waterways is urgent, says expert - Brazil

Brazil urgently needs to develop its inland water transport system, the managing director of Amsterdam ports association Amports, Wim Ruijgh, told BNamericas.

"The country needs to start planning now as this is a transport mode that takes some time to implement," Ruijgh said.

Amports and Dutch transport research firm NEA are currently working with Brazil's transport ministry to draw up a strategic waterway plan (Plano Hidroviário Estratégico).
