The pessimism of late 2008 and early 2009 led miners to put new mine projects and expansions on hold and, in the iron ore industry, flat out cut production levels to adapt to market conditions. However, the market has recovered more quickly and solidly than anybody dared to predict just one year ago and mining companies, especially copper producers, have begun to reactivate their investment plans.
