UAE Citizens Are a Tiny Fraction
of Private-Sector Workforce
Citizens of the United Arab Emirates constitute less than 10% of their country's population, but an even smaller fraction — less than 1% — of its private-sector workforce. Despite attempts by the government of the prosperous country to "emiratise" the labor force, the jobless rate among UAE citizens recently stood at 13.8%, more than five times the rate for non-nationals, according to an official report.
