Doing Business explores 5 countries in East Africa

Doing Business in East Africa

Countries in East Africa generally show poorly in Doing Business's annual reports, but there are pockets of good practice that, if adopted by all countries in the region, would yield a very healthy business environment, according to Doing Business in the East African Community 2010.

The new 62-page report takes a close look at business regulations in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. These economies rank from 67th (Rwanda) to 176th (Burundi) out of the 183 economies.

If these countries were to adopt the region's best practices, such as Rwanda's streamlined system for starting a business, East Africa would rank 12th.
