| A thousand ways to say I love you Gallery Q is a safe space for visual expression in the LGBTQ community. Founded by Lara Sebastian, it features art and artifacts that help cultivate awareness and discussion of issues facing the community. This month’s Gallery Night Providence – an event that features a different gallery within Providence each month – will include a reception marking Rhode Island Pride, which hosts its annual downtown event this weekend. On Saturday, catch the excitement and fun-filled 34th annual Pride Celebration with an outdoor marketplace, live musical entertainment and a Kidz Pride Zone, an area specifically created for families. Later in the evening, catch the Pride-Fest Illuminated Night Parade, which starts at 8:30 p.m. on the corner of Fountain and Dorrance streets.

| | Local exhibition for international photog Rhode Island-based photographer Salvatore Mancini has traveled throughout New England and abroad. He has used photography to document life in Rhode Island and his native Italy, as well as the environment, religion, events and ancient cultures around the world. Mancini has exhibited work at institutions such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art and the Fogg Art Museum. This month, his “Recent Photographs” exhibit will be displayed in a solo show at Gallery Z. The opening reception is being held this Thursday at the gallery. Copies of a published book of Mancini’s work will be sold at the reception.

| Fundraiser in 3-D The Rhode Island Historical Society is hosting an event this Saturday to benefit its Graphics Inventory Project. As a nod to the project, the society is hosting “The Third Dimension: Rhode Island in 3-D.” The event will show a visual history of Rhode Island through stereoview photographs. Stereographic cameras were used to create images with the illusion of 3-D long before the invention of television or 3-D movies. Local historian Ned Connors will provide narration for the event. Proceeds will support the Graphics Inventory Project, an effort to document and provide access to the society’s audiovisual resources.

| PGMC can’t stop the beat The award-winning Providence Gay Men’s Chorus will host its 15th annual show this week, to coincide with the Rhode Island Pride Festival. The group will showcase its harmony, choreography and individual talent with a side of humor in “Showstoppers: We can’t stop the beat.” Song selections for the evening include “There is Nothing Like a Dame” and “Yesterday.” Teresa Coffee, an associate professor of music at Rhode Island College, is the chorus’ artistic director. She brings more than 25 years experience leading choruses to her role with the Providence group.

| Treat Dad to a day at the zoo Roger Williams Park Zoo is celebrating Father’s Day with a barbecue and other activities designed for the whole family. Lunch includes salad, sides, BBQ pulled pork, hot dogs and all-natural hamburgers from Everglades Barbeque Co. Lowe’s Home Improvement is providing a wood kit picture frame for families to build and take home. Other activities include a meet and greet with local mascots, lawn games and more. Ten31 Production will be at the event with a baseball player statue for photo opportunities as well. The event will be held rain or shine, so come prepared.

| Tour a seaside landscape Theatre by the Sea, located near Block Island Sound, is home to the Ocean State Theatre Co. as well as a restaurant and seaside garden. It is also a historic site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This Saturday, garden steward Dana Millar of Dana Designs will conduct a tour of the garden, which boasts more than 300 varieties of perennials, grasses, shrubs and climbing plants. The tour – Relieving Horticultural Burdens – will last approximately 40 minutes and will be held rain or shine.

| Sight vs. sound Shamrock Financial is sponsoring the second annual Duel on the Diamond this Saturday. The softball game will set Rhode Island television personalities against radio personalities in this charity event. There will also be a raffle; prizes include tickets to concerts by the Beach Boys, Lynard Skynard, Jonas Brothers, Green Day and Maroon 5. Food will also be available for purchase. All donations will benefit the children of A Wish Come True, a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to children ages 3 through 18 who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.

| Relive the rebellious years The Glocester Heritage Society will commemorate the creation of the Rhode Island State Constitution with its annual celebration of Dorr Rebellion Days. The event’s namesake, Thomas William Dorr, led a rebellion in Glocester in 1842. Dorr and his supporters launched an attempt to achieve voting rights and create a new constitution. Although they were suppressed, a new constitution was made – the same constitution that governs the Ocean State today. The commemoration will include historic re-enactments, a fife muster and cannon fire throughout the weekend.

| Preserving the character of Smithfield The Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission and the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission encourage community members to attend the meeting for the Heritage Landscape Inventory Project. A consulting team will be on hand to assist in identifying Smithfield’s heritage landscapes. While the team will be providing recommendations on how to protect these landscapes, the commissions would like to hear suggestions from members of the community.

| A day for busy bees The Whole Foods Market at University Heights is getting into the spirit of National Pollinator Week with a storewide celebration of bees. Artists from the Providence collective The Hive Archive will have an art sale outside of the Whole Foods store. Jeff Mello from Aquidneck Apiaries will exhibit an observation hive and hold a honey tasting, while Maine-based Gold Star Honeybees will also demonstrate bee hives. A $5 donation allows you to participate in a Haagen-Dazs ice cream social, featuring the Vanilla Honeybee flavor. Proceeds benefit the Pollinator Partnership’s Honeybee Health Restoration Project.
