Get Yourself a "Bitsmith"
To succeed at anything, you need to have the right tools for the job. In today's knowledge-driven world, that means having customized and up-to-date information technology that allows you and your team to improve your performance. This technology needs to be created and maintained by a person who understands both the work content and the tools needed to support the job: a "bitsmith." By understanding the domain and the technology, bitsmiths can quickly take an idea from concept to implementation, speeding up productivity. Find someone on your team or bring someone in from IT who can serve as your bitsmith. Be sure she has both the authority and the budget to give your team the IT capabilities you need.
Harvard Business Review Blog Today's Management Tip was adapted from "Do Your Knowledge Workers Have a 'Bitsmith'?" by John Sviokla.
