Taking the stage on Friday is local blues group Sit Down Baby. The act is comprised of four musicians: Mark Milloff and Roscoe Tippett on guitar and vocals, Harry Milloff on bass and Richard LaGuardia on drums. This year’s Friday Night Concert Series is sponsored by the city of Providence, Mayor David N. Cicilline, the Providence Department of Art, Culture & Tourism, the Providence Department of Public Parks and 95.5 WBRU, as well as The Providence Phoenix, Dunkin Donuts and the R.I. Department of Public Transportation. The weather promises a kind sunset and the arena is a perfect place to bring family, friends and visitors for a picnic and entertainment.

The company is coming to the Providence Performing Arts Center for a weekend engagement. Presented by the Falun Dala Association of New England, the shows feature classical Chinese dance choreographed to the music of a live orchestra. The performances are inspired by 5,000 years of Chinese culture, ranging from classical processions to folk dances.

This Sunday, the society will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the William Park House in the Quality Hill neighborhood, which is designated as a National Register Historic District. Joseph Asermely, director of PSP and owner of the William Park House, will provide tours of the home and information about its recent renovations. All proceeds from the event will benefit the society. Refreshments will be served.

The adults-only event will feature food from area restaurants such as The Capital Grille, Shula’s 347, Flemings, Wasabi’s, McFadden’s, McCormick and Schmick’s, Union Station Brewery and more. There will also be live music by the World Premier Band and plenty of dancing. From now through June 25, the zoo is holding a Zoobilee online silent auction with items such as sports memorabilia, artwork and vacation getaways. All proceeds benefit the Roger Williams Park Zoo.

The show tells the story of an annual spelling competition that becomes the outlet for six quirky teenagers to share their hopes, their fears, and their many, many neuroses, as they battle each other and a group of celebrity guests. Featuring a score by William Finn (“A New Brain,” “Falsettos”), the musical-comedy gets one of its first local productions from Attleboro’s Triboro Musical Theatre, starring a cast of college and young-adult actors from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Two nights only.

IMAGE COURTESY 40+ SINGLES | | | | Sculpture speaks at the Bell Gallery Curator Dean Snyder of the David Winton Bell Gallery of Brown University presents “VoiceOver,” an exhibition of sculpture. The show features three New England artists in exploring narrative in sculpture. The three artists – Charles Jones of Boston, Jon Laustsen of Pawtucket and Amy Podmore of Williamstown, Mass. – display works using a variety of materials, including plaster, bronze, lumber, concrete and mixed media. The pieces of sculpture themselves point to references from history, construction sites and the absurd. The exhibit, which opened earlier this month, will be on display through July 11.

The Newport Restoration Foundation, established in 1968 by Doris Duke, is a nonprofit interested in preserving, maintaining and interpreting the landscapes and buildings of Aquidneck Island’s 18th and 19th century culture. This Thursday, the society is offering the “Wind Energy Past and Future” tour. The tour will begin at Prescott Farm, one of three museum properties owned and run by the society. The farm features the Sherman Mill among its historic buildings and gardens. After exploring the history of the windmill, which was built in 1812, the tour will continue at the Portsmouth Abbey, where participants will learn about its modern, electricity-generating wind turbine.

Hiatt recently released his latest album, “The Open Road.” The singer-songwriter will bring his classic, roots sound to the harbor side stage. Hiatt’s songs have been covered by artists such as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Iggy Pop and Willie Nelson. Adam Ezra, also known as the Adam Ezra Group, will provide an acoustic roots/rock performance as the opening act.
